Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospital for Cardiovascular Care

For the second consecutive year, Decatur Memorial Hospital has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® for cardiovascular care by the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters. The 100 Top Hospital's study focused on short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals that treat a broad spectrum of cardiology patients. Thomson Rueters researchers analyzed 2006 and 2007 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, 2007 Medicare cost reports, and data from other sources. They scored hospitals in key performance areas:

  • risk-adjusted medical mortality
  • risk-adjusted surgical mortality
  • risk-adjusted complications, core measure score
  • percentage of coronary bypass patients with internal mammary artery use
  • procedure volume
  • severity-adjusted average length of stay
  • wage- and severity-adjusted average cost

In March, the Joint Commission designated its Gold Seal of Approval to Decatur Memorial Hospital's Brain and Stroke Center.

Get with the Guidelines is a program by the American Heart Association, the Centers for Disease Control and The Joint Commission that measures 10 outcomes related to stroke care. DMH out ranks the midwest region hospitals in meeting or exceeding those guidelines.
